The Australian Government is tweaking how video games containing in-game purchases are classified in the region.New classification guidelines will debut on September 22, 2024, and mandate that titles featuring "in-game purchases with an element of chance" must have a minimum classification of 'M' (not recommended for children under 15 years of age).As noted by Australian game industry trade body IGEA, the updated guidelines define purchases with an "element of chance" as "mystery items players can use real money to buy without knowing what they’ll receive, such as loot boxes."The changes will apply to video games on computers, console, phones, and tablets (so pretty much the whole gamut) and are being made to "align video game classifications …

Resident Evil 2 Remake becomes the franchise’s top-seller at nearly 14 million sales

The 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 turned five years old back in January, and Capcom has now revealed it's the top seller in the survival horror franchise.As of March 31, 2024, the remake of the 1998 classic has sold over 13.9 million copies. Capcom revealed the milestone during a recent celebration for the game, and the studio's first in-game party for it."The positive feedback from everyone who has played the game is encouraging to all of our staff!" wrote Capcom in a translated post.
In July 2022, Resident Evil 2 had topped 10 million copies sold. Around that time, it had just been ported over to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

A pair of alum developers from Mediatonic have formed a new team, Kindred Spirit Games.As spotted by GamesIndustry, Megan Ralph and Joel Herber established the new studio at the start of 2024. The duo, according to Herber on LinkedIn, are already at work on their debut project.In addition to working at the Fall Guys studio as a lead client engineer (Herber) and level designer (Ralph), they were also coworkers at Summerhill creator Land & Sea.Separately, Ralph's worked at Ninja Theory, INT./Night, and Sony London. Sony adds PC support to PSVR2 in August with $60 adapter

Over a year after launch, the PlayStation VR2 is finally getting PC support. Sony's releasing an adapter on August 7 that players can use to buy and play Steam games (like Fallout 4 VR or Half-Life Alyx) using the VR device.Along with the $60 adapter, players will need a separate DisplayPort cable compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, plus a Steam account and PC that meets Sony's minimum requirements.Because the PSVR2 was tailor made for the PlayStation 5, Sony noted key features will be absent on PC, like headset and haptic feedback and eye tracking.
